Harvest Moon Regatta Classes

Which Harvest Moon Regatta Class Is Right for You?

One of the questions we hear most often each year is, “What’s the difference between the Standard Race, Rally Class, and Cruiser Party Class?”

The good news is that there really is something for everyone. Whether you’re a competitive racer chasing trophies, a cruiser looking for the adventure of an offshore passage, or someone who simply wants to enjoy the incredible Port Aransas party and camaraderie, there’s a Harvest Moon Regatta class designed with you in mind.

Here’s a breakdown of each option.

Standard Race

The Standard Race is the traditional Harvest Moon Regatta competition. Boats compete under the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions, are scored against other entrants, and are eligible for awards based on their performance.

This class is ideal for crews who enjoy strategy, competition, and the challenge of racing offshore.

Standard Race participants:

  • Compete in the official race
  • Receive an official score and results
  • Must complete race check-in
  • Must carry and activate a Yellowbrick tracker during the race
  • Receive the official event swag bag with paid registration
  • Mount Gay Hats for the crew

If your goal is to race hard and see how you stack up against the fleet, the Standard Race is where you belong.

Rally Class

Not everyone wants the pressure of racing for a trophy—but many sailors still want to experience the offshore passage alongside the rest of the fleet. That’s exactly why the Rally Class exists.

Rally boats start with the fleet and complete the same adventure while tracking their progress with a Yellowbrick tracker. The difference is that Rally participants are not scored competitively.

This class is perfect for newer offshore sailors, cruising couples, families, or anyone who wants the excitement of participating without the pressure of racing.

Rally Class participants:

  • Participate alongside the regatta fleet
  • Are not scored competitively
  • Must complete race check-in
  • Must carry and activate a Yellowbrick tracker
  • Receive the official event swag bag with paid registration
  • Mount Gay Hats for the crew

Think of the Rally Class as all of the adventure, camaraderie, and accomplishment of sailing to Port Aransas—without worrying about your finish time.

Cruiser Party Class

Maybe your goal isn’t the offshore race at all. Maybe you simply want to meet everyone in Port Aransas and enjoy one of the best sailing parties on the Texas coast.

The Cruiser Party Class is designed specifically for that.

Cruiser Party Class boats make their own voyage to Port Aransas on their own schedule and are not part of the official race. Participants receive the event swag bag with paid registration and are guaranteed dockage at the City Marina for the festivities.

Cruiser Party Class participants:

  • Are not part of the official race
  • Are not scored
  • Do not need a Yellowbrick tracker
  • Receive the official event swag bag with paid registration
  • 2 Mount Gay Hats
  • Receive guaranteed dockage at the City Marina for the Port Aransas celebration

If your priority is enjoying the destination, reconnecting with friends, and taking part in the legendary Harvest Moon Regatta festivities, the Cruiser Party Class is a perfect fit.

Which Class Should You Choose?

The choice really comes down to what kind of experience you’re looking for.

Choose the Standard Race if you want full competition and official results.

Choose the Rally Class if you want to sail the event with the fleet, experience the offshore adventure, and enjoy the camaraderie without being scored.

Choose the Cruiser Party Class if your focus is the Port Aransas celebration and cruising on your own schedule.

No matter which class you choose, you’ll be joining one of the Gulf Coast’s most beloved sailing traditions. Every skipper, every crew, and every boat helps make the Harvest Moon Regatta a special event year after year.

We can’t wait to see you on the starting line—or at the party in Port Aransas.
