Get Ready for Safety Day: Hands-On Training for a Safer Regatta

Safety has always been a top priority for the Harvest Moon Regatta®, and this year’s HMR Safety Day is taking it to the next level. While not required for everyone on board, at least two crew members from each participating boat must either attend this year’s Safety Day or certify (on a form provided by the Race Committee) that they’ve attended an HMR Safety Day within the past two years.

But don’t think of it as just a requirement — think of it as an opportunity. This year, Safety Day is packed with hands-on training sessions that go beyond the basics. From life raft deployments to flare demos, fire extinguisher practice, and overboard recovery drills, this event is built to provide real-world experience with the safety gear and procedures that could make all the difference offshore.

Whether you’re a seasoned sailor or new to the regatta, attending Safety Day will boost your readiness and give your crew the confidence to handle emergencies with skill and calm.

HMR Safety Day is on Saturday, September 6th, 2025, at 7:30am to 12:00pm in the LYC Ballroom.
