2016 Sail-a-thon for Ovarian Cancer Awareness
What is the Sail-a-thon for Ovarian Cancer Awareness?
For the fifth year, Sail-a-thon will be a part of the Harvest Moon Regatta. Sail-a-thon is a fundraising event benefiting the Judy's Mission Ovarian Cancer Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to ending ovarian cancer through funding research and raising awareness.
How can I participate?
There are three ways you can be a part of Sail-a-thon:
The 2016 Sail-a-thon Awards
This year, Judy's Mission will be presenting trophies to the first, second, and third skippers registered in the Harvest Moon Regatta who raise the most funds. A special trophy will be presented to the skipper who has the most individual donations, regardless of the total amount raised. It is just as important to spread awareness of ovarian cancer and its symptoms as it is to raise funds!
The winner of the first place trophy will also have his/her name and his/her boat/team name engraved on the Judy's Mission Perpetual Trophy. This trophy was created in 2012 to honor Judy Robinson and is kept on display at Lakewood Yacht Club throughout the year.

In 2015, over $18,000 was raised for ovarian cancer awareness programs in Houston.
Bill King, Gypsy Soul, came in 1st Place for Most Funds Raised and won the awareness award for Most Individual Donations.
Brian Irvine, Chinook, and Trace McQuaig, Shiraz, took home 2nd and 3rd place for Most Funds Raised.
Who was Judy Robinson?
Judy Robinson was an avid sailor, boat owner and HMR competitor. She was a member of the HMR Committee and a great supporter of the event. Despite a healthy lifestyle, Judy was diagnosed with advanced stage ovarian cancer in 2009 and died within a year. While battling ovarian cancer, Judy determined something must be done to raise awareness about the vague signs and symptoms and ineffective screening tools for ovarian cancer. The Judith Liebenthal Robinson Ovarian Cancer Foundation was founded to further Judy’s Mission...
- To educate women and the medical community about the signs, symptoms,
and critical nature of early diagnosis of ovarian cancer
- To fund research for effective screening and treatment of ovarian cancer
